About Us
Our family company was started in the mid 1970s. With more than 20 years of experience with traditional radio-navigation and positioning systems, such as Decca Navigator, Loran, Hi-fix etc., we initially rented out and installed systems such as Trisponder and Miniranger, expanding to include Microfix in the early to mid 1980s. By 1990, GPS technology was beginning to come of age, and it was at this time that we began adding Trimble GPS systems to our rental pool for offshore and hydrographic surveying.
At this time, receivers were still bulky and heavy, and a single unit capable of DGPS accuracy of 3 to 5 metres cost in excess of U$ 15,000. (Today, some of the better recreational handhelds costing just a few hundreds of dollars are equally capable).
As the technology improved, the systems became smaller and lighter, and more accurate. In the mid 1990s we were one of the first companies in the UK to offer RTK – Real Time Kinematic – GPS systems, offering for the first time, centimetric accuracy in real time, for both marine and land surveying applications.
As traditional radio-positioning systems fell out of favour, by the late 1990s our rental pool consisted almost exclusively of GPS equipment. Today, our rental stock comprises only high-accuracy GPS systems and associated equipment, such as radio-modem telemetry links used for the transmission of RTK and DGPS corrections.
We continue to be a small family business, but this is not reflected in our capabilities. We can just as easily supply a dozen RTK systems for a long term project as supply a single DGPS GIS system for a one-man-band surveyor.
What customers tell us they value from us time and time again is our support. This is why we try to be available to our customers 24 hours a day – no meetings or dreaded voicemails here ! If you need to talk to someone, the chances are you will be able to do so – first time.
Equipment is not just plucked off the shelf and shipped out – but, depending on your requirements, we will configure it as far as is possible to your needs. We won’t do the survey for you, but we’ll try to make sure that when you receive the system, you’ll be up and running with the minimum of fuss.
Many of our systems can be shipped out the same day for next day delivery to most of the UK; two days to most of the rest of Europe. Depending on your requirements, other systems may take a little longer to prepare and configure for you. Whichever is the case, we make sure all our customers, large or small, receive the same high level of service and care. It is this flexibility and adaptability in a rapidly changing, competitive industry, which has ensured we have an enviable level of customer loyalty.
At HIRETEC, we believe our service and our rental rates, to be second to none. With DGPS systems from £ 95 per week and RTK systems from £650 per week (all + vat) why not take a look and see if there is anything we can help you with for your next project.
